2 held with 10 Indian firearms in Sylhet

Police arrested two young men along with a cache of smuggled Indian firearms in bordering Alirgram area of Goainghat upazila on Tuesday. The arrested were identified as Sahab Uddin, 20, son of late Rashid Ali of Pantumai village, and Rozak Miah, 20, son of late Abdur Rahim of Nizbaga village in the upazila.
Police intercepted a CNG-run auto-rickshaw in the area while Sahab and Rozak were going to Sylhet city with 10 guns smuggled into the country from the neighbouring country through Sonarhat border in the upazila.
Sensing danger, the duo tried to flee the scene. Police, however, caught the youths with the help of locals.
Police suspected that the consignment of the illegal firearms was smuggled into the country to use those for political purposes. (Source: UNB)
