2 injured in Joypurhat passengers-cops clash

Dhaka, Sept 13 – Two people suffered wounds in a clash between passengers and Government Railway Police (GRP) at Akkelpur Railway Station in Akkelpur Upazila of Joypurhat on Tuesday night.Assistant station master of Akkelpur Railway Station Hasibul Alam said the clash between two groups of passengers broke out centring holding seats at Rajshahi-bound ‘Titumir Intercity Train’ around 7:30 pm.
On information, railway police appeared at the spot and tried to disperse the gathering.
At one stage, a group of passengers swooped on the GRP men, forcing them to lob tear gas canisters and fire rubber bullets to bring the situation under control, leaving Suman, 24, and Aminur, 34, injured with rubber bullets.
Later, a police team from Akkelpur Police Station came to the spot and controlled the situation, said officer-in-charge of the police station Sirajul Islam.
Both the injured, residents of Akkelpur Upazila, were admitted to Akkelpur Upazila Health Complex, said the OC adding the train left the station at 8:30 pm, making a delay of an hour. – UNB
