2 Juba League workers held over killing of their leader

Miscreants hacked to death a leader of the Juba League at Dhaka’s Mirpur in broad daylight on Saturday.
Two suspected Juba League activists have been detained over the killing of a leader of the ruling Awami League youth front in Dhaka, police say.
Miscreants hacked to death Shah Ali Rocky, 25, in an alley at Dhaka’s Mirpur-7 around 10:30am on Saturday.
Police claimed a business feud led to the killing and blamed a faction of the front for the attack.
“Both [the detained] are Juba League activists,” Kamal Hossain, Deputy Commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police’s Mirpur Zone.
“We are quizzing them,” he said refusing to name them for the ‘sake of investigation’.
Rocky was into a scrap business, he said and added the detained duo was also involved with similar trade.
“We assume the murder had taken place over a business dispute,” Deputy Commissioner Kamal said.
Juba League activists recently made news headlines after its Dhaka metropolitan unit (south) Organising Secretary Reazul Haque Milki was shot dead on July 30.
Investigations revealed those involved with the killing were also members of the youth front.
A group of six men attacked Rocky near his residence. They left behind four machetes after hacking him, police said.
Doctors at Dhaka Medical College Hospital declared him dead on arrival.
According to Deputy Commissioner Kamal, Rocky was the chief of Juba League’s ward number 92 (west). However, the youth front’s south unit General Secretary Ismail Hossain claimed the deceased was a mere supporter.
“The detained are also not Juba League activists,” he told reporters.
No case has been reportedly filed until Saturday evening over the killing.
Deputy Commissioner Kamal said police had started probing the matter with assistance from the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) and Detective Branch (DB). – bdnews24.com
