At least two people were killed and four others injured as a small RCC
bridge collapsed at north Shialkathi village in Bhandaria upazila on
Sunday morning.
The deceased were identified as Archana Bala Karmakar, 40, wife of
Gautam Karmakar and Nayan, 1, son of Jibon Malakar, both hailed from
north Shialkathi village of the upazila.
Officer-in-charge Matiur Rahman of Bhandaria Police Station said six
people fell in the canal when the old bridge, which was in a
vulnerable condition, collapsed around 10:30 am.
Archana and Nayan drowned in the canal while fire fighters rescued
four persons – Kanak Rani, Dipali Rani, Sumi Rani and Parimal Malakar
from the canal.
The injured were taken to Bhandaria upazila health complex. -UNB, Pijorpur
