Two alleged robbers were killed and 15 people, including locals and a policeman, injured
during a gunfight at Kazir Char village in Raipur upazila early Thursday.
Identity of the deceased could not be ascertained immediately.
Police said a group of 15-20 robbers stormed into two adjacent houses- one of Shariful
Islam and another of Mizanur Rahman—at Kazir Char and tried to loot valuables keeping
their inmates hostage at gunpoint around 2.00am.
Informed by elder brother of Shariful, police rushed in and cordoned off the houses.
Sensing the presence of police, the robbers opened fire on the law enforcers, who also
retaliated triggering a gunfight, which left at least 17 people, including two robbers,
injured.
The rest 15 injured include assistant sub-inspector Abdur Rahim and a few locals.
Later, locals caught the two bullet-hit robbers whom they gave a merciless beating,
leaving them dead on the spot.
Police also recovered a gun and two rounds of bullet from the scene. -UNB, Laxmipur
