A dawn-to-dusk hartal enforced by local unit of Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) is
progressing peacefully in the district without any incident of violence today (Thursday).
Earlier on August 25, the local BNP unit called the shutdown in the district for April 29
to press for tracing out its missing district president M Ilias Ali.
Additional forces of police and Rab have been deployed in different parts of the city to
avoid any trouble.
Movement of small vehicles was seen as usual in the city in the morning.
On April 17 last year, BNP central committee organising secretary and president of
Sylhet unit BNP and ex-MP M Ilias Ali went missing along with his driver after going
out of his residence at Banani Chairmanbari in the capital.
BNP has been blaming the security agencies for his mysterious disappearance, an
allegation denied by the government. -UNB, Sylhet
