2 students’ rape at fake birthday party: Deposition Oct 7

Dhaka, Sept 9 – The Seventh Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal could not record the deposition of witnesses in the case filed in connection with the rape of two private university students in the Rain Tree Hotel of Banani in the city. Sunday was earlier fixed for recording the depositions of one of the two victims, but the student did not turn up to testify. Later, Judge Md Nazim-Ud-Dowla fixed October 7 as the next date for recording the depositions of the witnesses.
The accused persons are Safat Ahmed, son of Apon Jewellers’ owner Dilder Ahmed, Safat’s bodyguard Rahmat Ali and his driver Billal Hossain, his friend Sadman Sakib and Naem Ashraf alias H M Halim.
On July 13, last year, the court framed charges against the accused discharging their discharge plea.
On June 7, Inspector Ismat Ara Ami submitted the charge sheet of the case against the accused. She is the investigation officer of the case and also an inspector of Women Support and Investigation Division (Victim Support Centre).
On March 28, last year, the two varsity students were fraudulently invited to a birthday function at the Rain Tree Hotel. However, there was no birthday function and the victims were raped there. – Special Correspondent
