2 suspects arrested over Japanese killing

Law enforcers have arrested three people, including two private bank officials, in connection with the killing of Japanese citizen Hoshi Kunio in Rangpur.

Of them, the two officials of a private bank were arrested from Alupatti of Rajshahi city on Thursday night while the other was held in Pabna on Friday.

The detainees were identified as sales and service officer M Sultan Nahid, credit card officer M Shahriar of Alupatti branch of the bank, and Sweet, 40.

A joint team of Detective Branch of Rajshahi and Rangpur picked up four officials of the private bank as soon as they stepped out of their office, said Rajshahi DB sub-inspector Azhar Ali.

However, two of the bank officials were released after primary interrogation while Nahid and Shahriar were sent to Rangpur on Friday after interrogation, he said.

Following information gleaned from the arrestees, a team of Rangpur and Pabna police arrested Sweet from Shalgaria in the district town on Friday afternoon, assistant police super of the district Liton Kumar Saha told reporters around 9pm on Friday.

Hoshi Kunio was shot to death in Rangpur on October 3, five days after the killing of Italian citizen Cesare Tavella in Dhaka’s Gulshan area.
