All the political parties under the fold of BNP-led 20-party alliance including Jamaat-e-Islami on Friday approved the BNP move to forge the greater national unity. The approval was given at a meeting of the alliance last night at BNP chairperson’s Gulshan office two days after Bikalpa Dhara Bangladesh demanded the BNP to leave the Jamaat by the BNP to join the unity process.
The 20-party allies gave the mandate to the BNP to get involved with the national unity but reminded the party not to forget its old friends after getting new friends.
The BNP explained the meeting that the national unity with three-party Jukta Front and National Unity Process would be with the BNP not with the 20-party alliance.
On the statement of Bikalpa Dhara leader, Mahi B Chowdhury about Jamaat, BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said that it is the observation of a party within the three-party Jukta Front.
He told the meeting that they have to wait further to know about the observations of the other partners of the national unity.
The meeting began at 7:30 pm with BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir in the chair and continued for over two hours.
While some alliance leaders wanted to know about the issue seat sharing the BNP secretary general assured them that it would be done on time and in accordingly.
About Sunday’s rally, the meeting was informed that it would be solely a public meeting of the BNP where anyone can join but no alliance would be invited. – Staff Reporter
