22 students arrested during recent protests released in 2 days

Dhaka, 25 Aug – Twenty-two students who secured bail and came out of the Dhaka Central Jail on Saturday and Sunday. Four of the students were released from the Central Jail of Keraniganj on Sunday at about 4.30 pm. Of the four students, who secured bail on Sunday, three were- Aminul Haque, Bajeed Adnan and Saber Ahmed.
The Deputy Jailor of the Central Jail, Zahidul Alam confirmed newsmen that the four students released on Sunday were of the East-West University – Risalat alias Ferdous and Aminul Haque, ULAB student Baijeed Adnan and Asian University student Saber Ahmed.
With them, 13 students were released on bail on Sunday. Earlier at 9.30am, nine students came out of the central jail on bail. Besides, on Saturday, nine students were released on bail. A total of 22 students came out of the central jail on bail. Their near relatives were waiting in front of the jail since the morning.
Dhaka’s court and Thana sources told newsmen that 99 students were arrested in 51 cases filed on the charges of attacking police, vandalism, provocation and obstructing police while they were working. Of them 52 were students.
On July 29, two students of Shaheed Ramij Uddin College of Cantonment area were killed by a bus while they were awaiting for transport to go home. Immediately after the incident, the students started agitation demanding punishment of the driver. Their road safety protests that followed got a big momentum. – Court Correspondent
