A woman from Rajshahi and her two accomplices have been sentenced to life in jail for throwing acid on her husband in an attempt to kill him.
Rajshahi Additional Chief Metropolitan Sessions Judge Mohammad Shahidullah pronounced the verdict at 3pm on Monday in presence of the three convicts.Prosecution lawyer Abdus Salam said the convicts were also fined Tk 50,000 each, with a year’s extension of the jail term if they failed to pay the money.
The convicts are victim Lalon Uddin’s second wife Dina, 26, Omar Faruk, 30, and Palan Ghosh, 35.
Referring to case documents, Salam said Lalon was asleep in his house at Sayergachha under Rajshahi city’s Rajpara Police Station on the night of July 3, 2009.
He said Dina threw acid on him, helped by the two other accused, in an attempt to kill him.
He was rushed to the Rajshahi Medical College Hospital in a critical state and later transferred to Dhaka for better treatment.
Lalon filed a case against the three on Dec 14, 2010 with Rajpara Police Station after he recovered. – bdnews24.com
