3 JCD men held from near Khaleda’s motorcade on remand

Dhaka, April 7 – The Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Court on Sunday put three persons, arrested near BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia’s motorcade in Shahbagh area on a day’s remand.
Those, who have been placed on remand are- Saiful Islam Tuhin, Chhatradal Vice-President of Dhaka College and Joint-General Secretary Atiqur Rahman Russel, Masud alias Masum, Rampura Thana Shechshasebakdal Vice-President.
Magistrate Sattayabrata Sikder of the CMM Court passed the order after hearing. The court also passed order to keep seven other accused in the jail till the completion of the investigation into the incident.
They were sent to the jail and they are- Mehedi Hasan Himel, Zakir Uddin Abir, Habibur Rahman Himel, Shahin Alam, Haizur Rahman, Rakibul Islam and Nasir Uddin Sarker.
It may be remembered that on Saturday at about 11.30 am the motorcade carrying Begum Khaleda reached the BSMMU Hospital. As soon as the transports reached the gate, pro-BNP leaders and activists rushed there. They entered the police security area. Hundreds of workers and leaders started raising slogans quickly demanding the release of Khaleda Zia.
The members of law enforcing resorted to lathi-charge on the mob and that compelled the mob to disperse. The 13 persons were then arrested on the spot.
BNP Chief Begum Khaleda Zia was brought to the BSMMU on Satuday morning for her medical treatment and later she was again taken back to the prison. – Special Correspondent
