3 policemen among 5 sent to jail in gold recovery case

A Dhaka court on Wednesday sent five people, including three policemen, to jail in a case filed in connection with the recovery of gold bars.
Dhaka’s Metropolitan Magistrate Shamsul Arefin passed the order when police produced the accused to the court.
The accused people are SI Manzurul Alam, Constabe Wahid and Constable Akash of Rampura Police Station, police informer Sajib Shikder and driver Mahfuz Alam.
Earlier, Detective Branch (DB) of police in separate drives arrested four people, including the three policemen, and recovered 149 gold bars from their possessions in the capital, Narayanganj, Gazipur and Bogra areas early Monday night.After investigation, the DB police arrested SI Manzul, Constables Wahid and Akash rom Rampura Police Station and police informer Rana on Monday. After further interrogation, three separate DB teams conducted simultaneous drives on Monday night and recovered the gold bars.
Earlier, OC of Rampura Police Station Kripa Krishno Bala and Inspector Nasim Ahmed of the Police Station were closed from the police station on March 18 after concealment of the gold bar recovery came to light. – Court Correspondent
