4 cops hurt in N’ganj AL attack; gun looted

Narayanganj – Four cops were injured in an attack allegedly by Awami League men following a clash with BNP activists at Fatehpur village in Sonargaon upazila on Friday night.
Police and witnesses said Awami League leader Anwar Hossain and upazila BNP vice-president Billal Hossain had been at loggerheads over the ownership of a piece of land.As a sequel to the enmity, their followers engaged in a clash at the village on Friday evening that continued for two hours, leaving at least 15 people injured.
On information, an eight-member team of Sonargaon Police Station, led by sub-inspectors Shariful and Nasir, rushed to the spot around 8:30pm.
However, the men of Anwar attacked the law enforcers and beat them mercilessly, leaving four them of injured.
The attackers also snatched the walkie-talkie of Shariful and a gun from a constable.
Later, police brought the situation under control by firing several shots in the air.
The injured cops are Shariful, Nasir, constables Shah Alam and Al Amin. Of them, the latter two were admitted to the Upazila Health Complex. – UNB
