4 extortionists jailed in Rajshahi

Four persons were convicted and sentenced to suffer four years jail on charge of extortion here yesterday.The convicted persons were identified as Akkash Ali, Matiur Rahman, Habibur Rahman and Ashraf Ali. All of them hails from Kazla Dharampur area under Matiher Police Station in the metropolis.Additional Sessions Judge Anup Kumar found them guilty under section 385 of BPC and pronounced the verdict in presence of them.The prosecution story, in brief, is that the extortionists’ gang forcibly stopped Freedom Fighter Abdul Matin, retired Deputy Director of Accounts of Rajshahi University, from constructing a fencing wall around his residence and demanded toll of Taka 5 lakh on September 16, 2012.On September 19, Abdus Sattar, elder brother of Abdul Mannan, lodged a case with Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court in this regard. After taking the matter into cognizance, the court asked the Matiher Police Station to submit a report.Upon completion of investigation, police pressed charge sheet against them before the court.BSS, Rajshahi
