4 get death for IT engineer murder

Four people have been sentenced to death for killing a computer engineer in capital Dhaka’s Mohammadpur neighbourhood in 2011.Judge of Fast-track Trial Tribunal-3 ABM Sajedur Rahman read out the sentence on Sunday.
Those being sent to the death row are Md Abdul Karim Sardar, Md Rashed Sardar Raju, Dwin Islam and Nasir Hossain Gazi.
All except Raju, who is still absconding, were present in court when the verdict was read out.
Raju and Karim were also given a five-year jail term for theft and fined Tk 5,000 each.
Another six months would be added to their jail terms if they failed to pay the fines.
One of the accused, Shamim Fakir, was acquitted.
According to the case, miscreants had strangled to death computer engineer Sumon Kumar Dutta, owner of A Tech Corporation at Mohammadpur on Oct 5, 2011.
They had also looted valuables from his office.
Sumon’s father Sushil Kumar Dutta had filed a case with the Mohammadpur Police Station in connection with the murder.
Three of the accused had confessed to their crime. The prosecution had recorded the statements of 16 witnesses, said Public Prosecutor Mohammad Habibul Rahman. – bdnews24.com
