41 BCC employees sacked by caretaker govt reinstated

Forty-one employees of Barisal City Corporation earlier sacked by
caretaker government in 2007 joined again in job Sunday after
reinstated by High Court order.
Advocate Mojibor Rahman Nantu and Advocate Ali Ahmed, BCC legal
advisers, said 121 employees were recruited by BCC in 2006.
After that BCC Mayor and BNP lawmaker Mojibor Rahman Sarwar was
arrested by army backed caretaker government and those recruitment
were also cancelled due to alleged corruption and irregularities.
Following restoration of democracy the 76 out of 121 sacked employees
lodged 21 cases with High Court against cancellation of their
recruitment in 2009 and the court ordered to reinstate 41 of them in
2011.
However then city AL president and BCC Mayor Shawkat Hossain Hiron
filed appeal against that order and so the joining of reinstated
employees were halted.
After the defeat of Hiron and wining of district BNP president Ahsan
Habib Kamal as BCC Mayor in June 15 election, panel mayor and BNP
leader Altaf Mahmud Shikdar took the charges as acting Mayor on June
30.
Then BCC authority decided to withdraw the appeal against the
reinstatement of the sacked 41 employees and on July 28 Chamber Judge
of Supreme Court approved the application of the legal advisers of BCC
for withdrawal of the appeal.
Altaf Mahmud Shikdar, acting BCC Mayor, told the services of the
sacked 41 employees were reinstated by court order and they duly
joined in their jobs on Sunday after submitting certified copies of
court order. -Our Correspondent, Barisal
