5 cops injured in Jessore bomb attack

Five policemen were injured as criminals hurled bombs at them at Mondalgati village in Sadar upazila on Sunday afternoon.Ariful Haque, additional superintendent of police (ASP) of Jessore, said being tipped that a gang of criminals was holding a clandestine meeting at Mondalgati Krishnabati Primary School ground, a team of Kotwali police station conducted a drive in the area around 3 pm.
Sensing the presence of the law enforcers, the terrorists opened fire on them and hurled 12 bombs targeting them, forcing police to fire in self-defence.
Five cops — sub-inspectors Ahsan, Ashraful, Antu Biswas and Bayezid and Habildar Abdul Mannan – sustained injuries in the bomb attack. On the other hand, criminal Hemayat suffered bullet wounds in the police firing.
Police later arrested Hemayat with his two cohorts Zahid and Abir Hossain Shuvo from the spot.
Police also recovered a foreign pistol, two bullets and a live bomb from their possession.
The injured cops and the criminal were admitted to Jessore Medical College Hospital.
