5 sentenced to death for killing Himu

A court here on Sunday convicted five people, including a man and his son, and sentenced them to death for killing Himadri Majumder Himu after letting loose dogs on him in 2012.Chittagong Additional Metropolitan Sessions Judge Nurul Islam passed the order, said public prosecutor Anupam Chakrawarty.
The condemned convicts are Shah Selim Tipu, his son Junaid Ahmed Riyadh, Jahidul Islam Shaon, Shahadat Hossain Saju and Mahbub Ali Khan Danny. Among them, Junaid and Shaon were tried in absentia.
On July 16 last, the court fixed July 28 for delivering verdict in the sensational murder case which was later deferred twice for various reasons.
The court also sent two accused in the case–Shah Selim Tipu and Shahadat Hossain Saju to jail as they were on bail.
According to the prosecution, some friends of Himu, a student of Summerfield School and College, took him to Junaid Ahmed Riyadh’s house, ‘Farhad Mension’, in the port city’s Panchlaish residential area April 27, 2012 as he had protested their drug peddling.
Later, the convicts allegedly pushed off Himadri from the four-storey building after unleashing ferocious Doberman dogs on him.
Himu succumbed to his injuries on May 23, 2012, 26 days after the incident at Dhaka’s Square Hospital.
Later, Asit Das, maternal uncle of Himu, filed a case against the five people with Panchlaish Police Station.
Police submitted a chargesheet against them on September 30, 2012. On February 3, 2014, a court indicted the five people in the murder case.
