5 testify in Holey Artisan Café attack case

Dhaka, June 13 – The Anti-terrorism Special Tribunal of Dhaka yesterday recorded the depositions of five policemen in the Holey Artisan café attack case and later Judge Md Mojibur Rahman of fixed June 18, as the date for next hearing of the case.
Of the 211 witnesses, the court so far recorded the depositions of 50 witnesses. Accused Mamunur Rashid alias Ripon, Shafiqul Islam alias Khaled, prime coordinator of the attack and Bangladeshi origin Canadian citizen Tamim Chowdhury’s accomplice Aslam Hossain alias Rashed alias Abu Jarra, Arms and explosive supplier neo JMB leader Hadisur Rahman Sagar, new JMB Arms and Explosives unit chief Mizanur Rahman alias Baro Mizan, militant Rakibul Hasan Regan, Jahangir Alam alias Rajib alias Rajib Gandi and one of the prime planner of the attack Abdus Sabur Khan Hasan alias Sohel Mahfuj were brought to the court on the occasion.
Militants killed 20 innocent people, most of them foreigners, in the grisly attack in 2016. Two police officials laid down their lives while trying to save the people there. Later, five militants were killed in a commando operation.
Police filed the case under the anti-terror act with Gulshan Police Station. The trial initiated on November 26, last year by framing charges against the eight accused. – Court Correspondent
