560 model mosques to be built across Bangladesh

The government has undertaken a project to construct 560 model mosques and Islamic cultural centres across the country, aiming to develop and spread the Islamic values and culture.

“The project has been approved by the government to set up a model mosque and a Islamic cultural centre at every upazila in the country,” Religious Minister Principal Matiur Rahman told this in the Jatiya Sangsad, while replying to a question from treasury bench member M Ayen Uddin of Rajshahi-3 today.

He assured that the model mosque and Islamic cultural centre would be constructed under the project at Poba and Mohonpur.

Replying to another question from another treasury bench member M Faridul Haque Khan, the minister said the government has a plan to set up two libraries at every mosque having no library at every upazila under Mosque Library Expansion and Enhancement Project (Second Phase).

“We have already set up library at every mosque having no library at every upazila under a Mosque Library Expansion and Enhancement Project (First Phase) from July 2012-13 to June 2017,” he informed the House.

Responding to another question from a treasury bench member Shamsul Hoque Chowdhury, the minister said the government has allocated Taka 2,00,000 for renovating/repairing of mosque and Taka 40,000 for temple at every constituency of the elected parliament member, while Taka 1,00,000 and Taka 20,000 for every reserved seat lawmaker to renovate/repair of mosque and temple respectively.
