Dhaka – Naval police arrested eight fishermen and seized 45,000 meters of current net along with five kg Jatka (hilsa fry) and three boats in a drive on the Meghna River in Sadar upazila in Chandpur on Friday.UNB agencyA mobile court, led by the upazila land officer and executive magistrate Abhishek Das, sentenced three among the arrestees—Md Shafik Khan,18, Md Shohag, 18, Shahjalal, 20– to one year imprisonment and fined another three Tk 1,000 each.Shahidul Islam, officer-in-charge of Chandpur naval outpost, said the seized current net was burnt in front of the district fisheries officer, while the jatka distributed among the orphanage, the poor and madrasas.
