A Chittagong court has sentenced eight men to life for killing a former Union Parishad (UP) member in Comilla.
Judge Reza Ahmed Tarek let off one Alauddin and absolved him of the charges of murder on Sunday.
Those given life sentence are Swapan Khan, ‘Pothik’, ‘Almas’, ‘Taizuddin’, ‘Alim’, ‘Yunus’, Golam Mostofa and Hasan Ali.All of them are now behind bars. Public Prosecutor Ayub Khan said the convicts had killed Homna Union’s UP member Motin Munshi on Mar 21, 2012.
The victim’s brother Sohrab Hossain filed a case over the murder with Homna police the following day.
Police pressed charges against nine persons in court.
Khan said the court fined the convicts Tk 5,000 each.
They will have to serve an additional six months of rigorous imprisonment if they fail to pay, he said. – bdnews24.com
