Police have detained 84 more people over their suspected involvement in the Islami Chhatra Shibir attack on the Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST).
Jalalabad Police Station’s Officer-in-Charge Gausul Hossain said they had nabbed the suspects from areas near the university during raids on Friday.
They had been detained in connection with last week’s violence at SUST.The officer said the identities of those held were being “scrutinised”. “The details will be given out later but most of them are SUST students.”
Shibir, student wing of the Jamaat-e-Islami, ran amok on the campus on Jan 26 after clashes with ruling Awami League’s student front, Bangladesh Chhatra League.
Several buses, private cars, the university’s academic and administrative buildings were vandalised.
SUST Registrar Md Isfakul Hossain claimed the university had suffered damages worth around Tk 15 million.
Two cases had been filed over the incident implicating Shibir’s SUST unit top brass.-bdnews24.com
