Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, a major ally of BNP-led 19-party alliance, has called a dawn-to-dusk nationwide hartal on Monday protesting the 10-truck arms haul verdict that awarded death sentence to 14 persons including party’s Ameer Mualana Motiur Rahaman Nizami. Acting secretary general of Jamaat Dr Shafiqur Rahman announced the programme in a press statement on Friday.This is first hartal of the country’s Islamist party following the January 5 parliamentary elections.
In the statement, the Jamaat leader said the hartal was announced to protest against the government conspiracy to kill Maulana Nizami in a planned way.
He alleged that Nezami’s name was not included in the first information report (FIR) later in 2011 his name was inducted by the government brining imaginary allegation against him.
The Jamaat leader called upon the people from all sphere of life to make the hartal programme a success. – Staff Reporter
