At least nine shops were gutted by a fire that broke out at Haque Market in Bhandaria upazila in the early hours of Monday.
Nurul Alam Dulal, station officer of Bhandaria fire station, said the fire originated from an electric shot circuit at a fabric shop in the market around 4:00am and soon engulfed eight other adjacent shops.
On information, two firefighting units–one from Bhandaria and the other from Kathalia fire station–rushed to the spot and doused the blaze after two hours of frantic efforts with the help of local people.
Fire service officials said the loss in the fire was estimated at Tk50 lakh. -UNB, Pirojpur
