Dhaka – The High Court Division of the Supreme Court on Monday directed the Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Akhaura Police Station in Brahmanbaria district to appear before it on July 23 for mentioning a businessman as dead although he was alive.OC Mosharraf Hossain Tarafdar will have to appear before the High Court on July 7 to explain as to why he has mentioned businessman Azad Hossain Bhuiyan of Bara-kuripika village in Akhaura Upazila as dead in his official report.
The High Court bench of Justice Syed Muhammad Dastagir Hussain and Justice Md Ataur Rahman Khan passed the order after hearing on a writ petition filed by Azad Hossain.
The petitioner’s lawyer Kaiser Zahid Bhuiyan told newsmen that Azad Hossain is scheduled to go to Saudi Arabia for performing Hajj later this month.
A permanent resident and businessmen of Akhaura upazila, Azad Hossain has already deposited necessary fees and others for his hajj. But the OC submitted a police verification report to the Special Branch office on June 20 saying that Azad Hossain died, the lawyer said.
Advocate Kaiser also said his client has filed a writ petition with the High Court on July 11 seeking its directive upon the police to correct the police verification report so that Azad can go to Saudi Arabia for hajj. Police clearance is a required document for those, who are expecting to go to Makkah to perform the holy hajj. – Special Correspondent
