A parliamentary panel has recommended the distribution of 30,000 freedom fighters’ certificate that will stand up to machine scrutiny.The certificates, designed to prevent forgery, will be distributed among as many freedom fighters within the next month.
“The ministry might give the certificates to those who were correctly enlisted in the first phase,” chief of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on the Ministry of Liberation War Affairs Rafiqul Islam, Bir Uttam, said on Tuesday after a meeting.
He said the ministry considered the ‘Muktibarta list’, containing the names of the freedom fighters, to be correct and might issue certificates to those enlisted. “We can assume that those whose names were published are authentic.”
The Ministry of Liberation War Affairs published a draft list of 177,000 freedom fighters on its website on Feb 13 this year.
Meanwhile, a media statement from the Parliament Secretariat says around 30,000 certificates will be distributed within August.
The panel also recommended publishing a list of freedom fighters – apart from the Muktibarta list – in national dailies to screen mistakes.
“It will be difficult to scrutinise all the applications for correct information.
“Those excluded from the Muktibarta list will be able to apply for correction, in case of any error, if a list is published in the media,” the panel chief said. (Source: bdnews24.com)
