Police arrested the district unit president of Hefajat-e-Islam and two
others busting a den of the Islamist group at Dhalhara village in
Sadar upazila early Monday.
The arrestees were identified as Kazi Jader Ali, 35, president of the
district unit of Hefajat, Maulana Shahajahan Ali, 32, and Chhanar
Uddin, 55, activists of the group.
Acting on a tip-off, a team of police raided a den of the organisation
at a house in the village and arrested the trio while they were
holding a meeting there.
Sensing the presence of the law enforcers, others at the meeting
managed to flee.
Jahangir Alam, officer-in-charge of Magura Police Station, said
Hefajat and Jamaat-e-Islami activists were planning subversion at the
meeting.
A case was filed under the Special Powers Act against the arrestees.
They were produced before a court which sent them to jail rejecting
bail. -UNB, Magura
