Eight Shibir activists put to one-day police remand

A Dhaka court on Wednesday placed eight Islami Chhatra Shibira activists on a one-day remand each in a case filed for alleged vandalizing vehicle and explosion of cock-tail.
 Magistrate Asaduzzaman Nur of the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Court of Dhaka passed the order after hearing.
Earlier, Sub-Inspector Abu Zafar of Paltan Police Station in the capital produced the Shibir activists to the CMM Court and sought a seven-day remand each to quiz them in connection with the charges.
However during the hearing the defence lawyers sought bail of their clients rejecting the bail petition of police.
The Shibir activists are Kamrul Ahsan, Lutfor Rahman, Sultan Mahmud, Mahfuz, Shahin, Amin, Nishan and Russel.

The Shibir activists were detained on Tuesday while Jamaat-Shibir activistsa  brought out a procession, torched and vandalized vehicles, and blasted cock-tails around Purana Paltan area of the City.  – Court Correspondent
