JP (Zafar) urges people to boycott polls

Chairman of a faction of Jatiya Party Kazi Zafar Ahmed and secretary general Golam Masih in a statement on Saturday called upon the people to boycott Sunday’s “farcical” elections  and not to come out of their homes. They said that ruling party has been trying to hold a tainted and farcical election.“We believe that all the patriotic nationalist and Islamic forces will resist the polls at any cost,” said the statement. They said when they are making attempt to hold the elections, opposition leader Khaleda Zia put under house arrest.
The JP leaders strongly condemned and protested the government move to slip her fundamental rights and freedom of movement.
They asked party leaders and activists to take part in the opposition boycott campaign.
Meanwhile, addressing a mass hunger strike programme at the National Press Club, president of Bangladesh Krishak Sramik Janata League Bangabir Kader Siddiqui, Bir Uttam, said none but demons would go to the polling centres on Sunday.
He said the name of Sheikh Hasina will be engraved I the history along with t Genghis Khan and Yahiya Khan for holding the lop-sided polls.
“Nobody will abide by diktat of Sheikh Hasina after January 24,” he added.
Peshajibi Parisahd organised the hunger strike protesting the attacks of ruling party activists at the National Press Club, Supreme Court premises and on Dhaka University teachers. – Staff Reporter
