Chief Election Commissioner Kazi Rakibuddin Ahmad on Wednesday hoped that there will be no recurrence of the January-5 violence during the re-voting in 390 polling stations of seven constituencies.
“A large number of law enforcers have been deployed there ahead of tomorrow’s (Thursday’s) elections. They’ve confirmed us of an improved situation. We hope there’ll be no recurrence of the Jan-5 violence there,” he told reporters at the Election Commission Secretariat.
The CEC also hoped that the re-voting in the seven constituencies will be held in a fair and peaceful manner, and voters will be able to return home safe.
Meanwhile, the re-voting in Kurigram-4 was today postponed following a court order. The election will be held there in due time, Rakibuddin told the journalists while leaving his office in the evening.
