The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) on Thursday fixed February 19 to submit the charge sheet in two cases filed in connection with the collapse of Rana Plaza of Savar, near the city.
The investigation was completed in the two cases, says Bijoy Krishna Kar, Investigation Officer (IO) of the cases and also a Senior Police Super of CID.
Earlier, the court set the deadline for submitting the charge sheet on February 19 and the charge sheet would be submitted on the same day, the IO added.Forty people including the owner of Rana Plaza Shohel Rana and his father Abdul Khaleque and RMG factory owners are going to be included in the charge sheets, the IO said.
The 9-storey Rana Plaza with several garments collapsed in late April last year causing 1130 causalities, largest in the history of garment industry in the world.
The victims, most of them female RMG workers, died and two thousand others were injured in the disaster. Remains of some unfortunate people were found there recently.
Following the collapse, Sub-Inspector (SI) Wali Ashraf of Savar Model Police Station field a case and a Rajdhani Unnayan Kartipakkha (Rajuk) official lodged another case for defying the building code.
Police detained Shohel Rana from Benapole in Jessore while he was fleeing to India for days after the disaster. On May 15 last year, the cases were handed over to CID for quick action. – Court Correspondent
