The High Court has directed the government to issue within 48 hours a machine readable passport (MRP) to BNP Standing Committee Member Barrister Moudud Ahmed.
The bench of Justice Kazi Rezaul Haque and Justice ABM Altaf Hossain passed the order on Wednesday after the final hearing on a writ petition by the senior BNP leader.The Director General of the Passport and Immigration Directorate has been directed to implement the order.
Moudud argued for himself at the hearing while Deputy Attorney General Biswajit Roy stood for the state.
Moudud had on February 24 appealed to the Passport and Immigration Directorate to issue him an urgent MRP passport.
But since passport was not issues within 72 hours, he filed the petition with the High Court on March 5. The court had issued a ruling after a preliminary hearing the next day.-bdnews24.com
