Six people, including a DB officer, have been arrested on the charge of snatching gold worth Tk 3 crore from a jewellery businessman.
Twenty-three of the looted 60 gold bars were recovered from their possession.
The victim businessman and his brother were detained as they failed to show valid documents for the looted gold, said officer-in-charge of Kotwali Police Station Mohiuddin Selim on Saturday.The arrested persons include sub-inspector of Detective Branch of Chittagong Metropolitan Police (CMP) Abdul Hossain and his six informers.
A team of 10-12 people, led by Abdul Hossain, intercepted Krishna Karmakar and his brother Narayan Karmakar in the city’s Station Road area on Thursday noon, CMP sources said.
The police officer beat the businessman and took away a bag full of 60 gold bars from him while he was going to Chittagong Railway Station to catch a Dhaka-bound train, the sources said.
Confirming the incident, CMP Commissioner Abdul Jalil Mondal said a robbery charge will be brought against them after investigation. – UNB
