ACC petition to increase Khaleda’s punishment

Dhaka, March 21 – The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) will appeal to the High Court Division of the Supreme Court to increase the imprisonment term of the former Prime Minister and BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia in the Zia Orphanage Trust case.ACC lawyer Khurshid Alam Khan said on Wednesday morning that they have taken all preparations and would appeal within next Sunday.
The trial court handed imprisonment term to Khaleda for five years but 10 years with fine for Tarique Rahman, her son and four others.
The ACC filed the case with Ramna Model Police Station in July 2008, accusing the six of misappropriating over Tk 2.1 crore that came from a foreign bank as grants for orphans. – Special Correspondent
