Actor-director Pijush Bandyopadhyay faces corruption charges

Actor-director Pijush Bandyopadhyay has been charged with corruption in a project of the Bangladesh Film Development Corporation (BFDC).The Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) prosecuted Bandyopadhyay, a former BFDC managing director, and three others on Wednesday.They have been accused of causing a loss of about Tk 35 million while buying equipment for the corporation.ACC Deputy Director Hamidul Hossain filed the case at the Tejgaon Industrial Zone Police Station, the commission’s Public Relations Officer Pranab Kumar Bhattacharya told greenwatchbd.com.The others accused in the case are Malaysia-based Messrs Novel Co official John Noel, local agent of the supplier Khandker Shahidul and project director Shafiqul Islam.An ACC official, requesting anonymity, said the equipment was supposed to be bought from the US and Japan.But they were bought from China and Malaysia, causing the loss to the state.Bandyopadhyay was appointed the BFDC managing director in 2012. His contract ended in 2014.
