AL observing 67th founding anniversary

Awami League, the country’s oldest political party, is observing its 67th founding anniversary today (Thursday). Founded on June 23, 1949, at the historic Rose Garden in the old part of Dhaka, the party played the lead role in all the democratic movements apart from leading the nation in the War of Liberation in 1971 under the leadership of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

Prime Minister and Awami League President Sheikh Hasina has issued a message marking the party’s founding anniversary. Sheikh Hasina said, “Today, the Awami League government has connected Bangladesh with the superhighway of development. We’re pledge-bound to turn Bangladesh into a middle-income nation by implementing Vision-2021 and a developed and prosperous country by implementing the Vision-2041.” Dhaka, UNB News Agency Reported.

“I urge every citizen of the country to come forward to maintain the trend of development,” she added. The forces against the country’s independence, democracy and development are involved in various misdeeds, including the killing of innocent people, said the Prime Minister, adding the Awami League government is firm to root out such conspiracy.

Meanwhile, Awami League has chalked out elaborate programmes to celebrate the day. The day’s programmes will start through hoisting of the national flag as well as party flag atop its central office and offices across the country at sunrise. Sheikh Hasina paid homage by placing a floral wreath at the portrait of Bangabandhu at Bangabandhu Memorial Museum at Dhanmondi in the city in the morning.

The party will hold a discussion at Bangabandhu International Conference Center at 2.30 pm with Prime Minister and Awami League president Sheikh Hasina in the chair.
