AL’s Sramik League threatens to take position at Khaleda’s office

Leaders and activists of Sramik League on Monday warned that they will take position inside the BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia’s Gulshan office if she does not call off the ongoing transport blockade and hartal.
They issued the warning after staging an hour-long demonstration near the BNP chief’s office where she has been staying since January 3.
“We’re telling Khaleda Zia still there’s still time, please withdraw the blockade and hartal programmes. If you don’t do so, Sramik League activists will take position inside your office and you won’t be able to resist them then,” said Sramik League general secretary Sirajul Islam.
He also said the central committee will also work out their next course of action very soon to force Khaleda to call off her party-led 20-party’s ongoing action programme, which is causing havoc on the workers’ livelihoods.
Hundreds of people under the banner of Sramik League, led by its president Shukkur Mahmud, gathered near the BNP chief’s office around 11:45am.
They raised various slogans there against hartal, blockade and violence.
At one stage, the Sramik League men tried to march towards Khaleda’s office in a procession to lay a siege to it, but police blocked them near Gulshan Model School and College. Later, they staged demonstrations there.
Addressing the programme, the Sramik League leaders accused Khaleda of carrying out violent programmes, and demanded the government arrest her.
Shukkur said many workers are getting injured in violence during the 20-prty’s hartal and blockade while petrol bombs are being hurled at public buses. “It can’t be continued.”
He urged Khaleda to call off the hartal blockade and pursue the path of peace, shunning violence and sabotage.
After staging the demonstrations, the Sramik League men left the area around 12:50pm.= UNB
