‘Amnesty paid for by Bnp speaks in its tone’: Quamrul

Taking a swipe at Amnesty International (AI) for its statement on Bangladesh’s ongoing political situation, Food Minister Quamrul Islam on Friday termed it a ‘BNP-paid organisation’ as it what he said speaks in BNP’s tone.
“They’re criticising the government accusing it of violating human rights. But they don’t notice BNP’s terrorist acts of killing people by torching vehicles and hurling petrol bombs. They don’t consider these activities as human rights violation. They’re a paid organisation of BNP,” he said. The minister was addressing a discussion meeting organised by Bangladesh Islami United Party at Dhaka Reporters Unity.
AI, the London-based rights group, in a statement on January 22 urged the government of Bangladesh to ensure that law enforcers do not use excessive or unnecessary force.
Observing that a political crisis can be resolved politically, Quamrul, also joint general secretary of Awami League’s Dhaka city unit, said terrorism and killing deserve stern actions. “What’s going on today is not a political crisis. This is our fight against terrorism,” he added
He also alleged that BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia is carrying out terrorist activities in a planned way to make Bangladesh a failed state as per instructions of its senior vice-chairman Tarique Rahman.
The minister urged all conscious and pro-liberation BNP leaders to show disloyalty to the BNP chief’s ‘terrorist leadership’ as she what he said is leading the party to destruction by giving orders of terrorist acts. – UNB
