Arrested BNP activist Sapu hospitalised

Swechchhasebak Dal’s General Secretary Mir Sharafat Ali Sapu has been hospitalised after he ‘fell ill’ in police custody.Sapu was admitted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital around 11am on Tuesday, said the hospital’s emergency unit doctor Rabiul Islam.
Sapu was kept in the coronary care unit as he complained of chest pain.
Assistant Commissioner Abu Yusuf of Detective Branch of Police said Wednesday was the last day of Sapu’s remand.
He was taken to the hospital since he fell sick.
Sapu and Organising Secretary Shafiul Bari Babu of the opposition BNP’s volunteer front had been arrested from the capital’s Bangla Motor area on Nov 14.
The next day, a Dhaka court remanded them for five days in police custody in a case filed over assault on the law enforcers.
BNP Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kaabir Rizvi on Monday had alleged Sapu was being ‘tortured’ in police custody. He had also demanded Sapu be sent to a hospital. – Agencies
