Dhaka – A detained BNP leader died in custody at Dhaka Medical College Hospital early Tuesday.The deceased was identified as Md Shahabuddin, 62, vice-president of ward-26 unit BNP of the city.
Son of late Hazi Abdul Hai, Shahabuddin was residing at 22/A Dhakaswari Road under Lalbagh Police Station. He was also the former secretary of Palashi Bazar.
DMCH sources said police arrested Shahabuddin from Palashi Bazar on November 6 during a hartal enforced by the BNP-led 18-party alliance.
Later, a court sent him to Dhaka Central Jail when he was produced before it.
Shahabuddin fell sick at the jail on Monday night.
The jail authorities rushed him to the DMCH where on-duty doctor declared him dead around 12:10 am. – UNB
