Bd regulators block 1279 more pornographic websites

Dhaka, Feb 14 – The Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) on Thursday blocked 1,279 more pornographic websites in the country to all International Internet Gateway (IIG).
Confirming the matter an official of an IIG said the BTRC ordered to block pornographic websites and implement of the directive instantly.
Earlier on February 6, the BTRC also blocked 244 pornography websites to the International Internet Gateway (IIG).
In that day, Mustafa Jabbar, telecommunications and information technology minister, posted a status on his Facebook page: “244 porn sites have been blocked. The drive is continuing and it will continue”.
On November 19 last year, the High Court (HC) directed the government to block all pornography websites and publication of all obscene material from the electronic form for the next six months.
Secretaries of the post and telecommunication ministry and the law ministry, chairman of the BTRC and the authorities of five telecom bodies have been asked to reply to the rule within four weeks. The Law and Life Foundation recently filed a writ petition before the HC, seeking necessary order in the matter.
Bangladesh has more than 60 million Internet users and majority of them access the Internet on their mobile phones, according to the BTRC.
There is no official data on how many visit porn sites.
