Four more prosecution witnesses gave their depositions before a Dhaka court on Wednesday in the sensational tailoring shop employee Biswajit murder case. Judge of the Speedy Trial Tribunal-4 ABM Nizamul Haque recorded the deposition of Parbati Hawlader, cleaner of Intensive Dental Care, tearoom man M Shahid, and line secretaries of ‘Bahadur Shah Paribahan’ M Yousuf Bapari and Abdur Razzak. With this, a total of 13 of the 60 prosecution witnesses testified at the trial of the killing of Biswajit. After conclusion of their deposition, the court fixed August 25 for next hearing of the case. The trial of the killing began on July 14 at the tribunal with the deposition of sub-inspector of Sutrapur Police Station Mohammad Jalal Uddin, also the complainant of the case. Eight accused, now in custody, were produced before the court on Wednesday. They are: Rafiqul Islam Shakil, Mahfuzur Rahman Nahid, Emdadul Haque Emdad, GM Rasheduzzaman Shaon, AHM Kibria, Saiful Islam, Quaiyum Mia and Golam Mostofa. Of them, Shakil, Nahid, Shaon and Emdad made confessional statements before the court earlier. On June 18, the Home Ministry issued a gazette notification shifting the case to the Speedy Trial Tribunal-4. Dhaka’s Metropolitan Magistrate Zahurul Haque framed the charges against 21 activists of Bangladesh Chhatra League of Jagannath University unit on June 2. On March 5, Tajul Islam, DB inspector and investigation officer of the case, submitted a charge sheet against the 21 accused. Biswajit Das, a tailoring shop employee, was chopped to death by the BCL workers near the Bahadur Shah Park in the old city during the opposition’s countrywide road blockade programme on December 9 last year. -UNB
