A Dhaka court on Wednesday granted bail to blogger Asif Mohiuddin in the case filed for making alleged derogatory comments in his write-ups about Islam and Prophet Muhammad (pbuh).Dhaka’s Senior Special Judge Md Jahurul Haque granted the bail on health ground after hearing.
The same court granted Asif interim bail from June 27 to July 25. But he did not plead for extension of the bail to the court before the bail period was over.
On July 29, Asif sought extension of bail and the court sent him to jail for breaking the conditions of interim jail.
Detective Branch (DB) of police arrested four bloggers including Asif, 28, a former student of a private university from the city on April 1 and 3. Among other three bloggers Rasel and Shuvo got bail on May 12 while Moshiur Rahman Biplob secured bail on June 2.
On July 29 Asif was sent to jail cancelling his bail.
On April 17, the DB of police submitted probe reports against Asif, accusing him of hurting religious sentiments of people through social media.
The court fixed August 25 for hearing on charge framing against the blogger. – Court Correspondent
