BNP accuses Govt of maltreating flood-hit haor people

Dhaka – BNP vice-chairman Shamsuzzaman Dudu on Saturday accused the government of maltreating with the flood-hit people of haor areas.
Addressing a human chain on Saturday he said that troubles and miseries of the haor areas relected the failure of the government.“The horrific humanitarian disaster has shown the failure of the government with finger in the eyes. The government is trying to avoid the helpless haor men even after the human catastrophe of memories,” said the BNP leader.
Dhaka city unit of the Bangladesh National Awami Party (Bangladesh NAP) arranged the human chain programme in front of the National Press Club in the city in the morning demanding declaration of the haor calamity as national disaster and taking immediate step to save the affected people.
Shahidunnabi Dablu, president of city unit oof tthe oorganisation presided over the programme, while Bangladesh NAP secretary general M Golam Mustafa Bhuiyan, chairman of Bangladesh Jatiya Dal Syed Ehsanul Huda, secretary general of NPP Mostafizur Rahman Mostafa, vice chairman of Bangladesh Kalyan Party Shahidur Rahman Tamanna, NDP leader Manzur Hossain Isa and NAP leader Principal Nazrul Islam, among others, addressed it.
Dudu alleged that the government is not declaring the flood-hit haors ‘disaster zone’, as the failure and corruption of the government will be proved. The Awami League men are working as contractors in the haor areas through tender. The flood adversely affected the haors due to the corruption of the ruling party men, he added.
He demanded of the government to declare the haor belt as ‘disaster zone’ immediately.
M Golam Mustafa Bhuiyan expressed dissatisfaction over the poor activities of the government to help the flood-hit haor people. He said that the government’s negligence in this regard in not acceptable. – Staff Reporter
