Dhaka, Dec 12 – Chandpur-1 ( Kochua) Constituency’s BNP candidate Mosharraf Hossain’s maiden motorcade came under sudden attack near Sachar Bazar -a burgeoning commercial hub in Kochua Upazila at around 4 pm on Wednesday. It left at least ten people injured and among them, the BNP candidate Mosharraf Hossain himself was slightly injured too, said Police sources. The attack was made in presence of Police who were standing not far away and were playing the role of silent spectators -said
locals and witnesses. When Mosharraf Hossain’s first motorcade comprising some ten to 12 vehicles carrying many supporters on board was going to offer munajat at the Mazar of Uzani Pir Saheb at Uzani area from his home at Baroipara village under Pathoir union of the Upazila, the motorcade came under sudden attack at around 4 pm near Sachar Bazar.
The attackers with country-made weapons vandalized five vehicles with sticks and brick pieces-said party sources and witnesses. Mosharraf himself among ten BNP men were injured.
BNP candidate Mosharraf Hossain’s maiden election procession/campaign was halted in the middle of the road. Finding no other alternative, he along with his supporters and activists went back home and thus, his maiden election campaign programme ended in a fiasco.
The injured were rushed to different hospitals in the neighbouring Gouripur Upazila of Comilla.
When contacted, OC Kochua Police Station Ataur Rahman told this correspondent,’ Police force rushed to the spot and the situation is now calm. An additional Police force was deployed at the troubled spots to avert further clash. We are looking into who the attackers were’. None has complained to me regarding this attack as yet-added he.
Soon after the attack, a protest procession was brought out at Sachar Bazar and at the roadside meeting, the Upazila Unit’s BNP leaders-Humayun Kabir Prodhan and Emdadul Huque among others spoke. In their speech, they slated this attack accusing Jubo League leaders – Robiullah and Dalim and BCL leaders Salahuddin Sarker and Saddam who allegedly masterminded this sudden attack and swooped on the motorcade of BNP candidate.
