BNP yesterday demanded judicial inquiry into the killings of two foreigners as what it claimed that all the law enforcing agencies failed to unravel the mystery behind the two murders.“We demand to form a judicial enquiry headed by the Chief Justice to unearth the mystery behind the killings of two foreign nationals as all the government agents including the law enforcing agencies have failed to do it,” said BNP vice chairman Shah Moazzem Hossain made the demand at a press conference at his Gulshan residence.
He said the judicial probe body is needed to find out the perpetrators and give them exemplary punishment.
Italian citizen Cesare Tavella has been killed in diplomatic zone in the city on 28 September while Japanese national Kunio Hoshi killed at a village in Rangpur on October 3.
The BNP leader alleged that like the Gabandha MP Manjurul Islam Liton, accused of shooting and injuring a nine-year old boy, the different law enforcing agencies of the government are shooting indiscriminately at the people unlawfully.
Shah Moazzem accused the government of diverting the killings of two foreigners into other channels. He strongly criticized Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina for her statements involving BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia and senior vice chairman Tarique Rahman for the killings.
“The real killers will remain behind the curtain following the statements of the Prime Minister involving the political leaders. It will inspire the killers go for more killings,” he added.
Replying to a question, the former minister said there is no existence of militancy in the BNP. “Had there been any sign of it, at least I would not been in the party,” he said.
He criticized the government for its move to hold local government polls under partisan basis and with party symbol.
Asked whether the BNP would take part in the local body polls under partisan basis he said party chairperson would take final decision in this regard. “But I personally do not like the government decision,” he added.
Juba Dal leader Giasuddin Mamun and Saif Ali, among others, were present on the occasion.
