BNP is silenct on SQ Chy’s death sentence

BNP, one of whose standing committee member death sentence was confirmed by the Appellate Division of Supreme Court yesterday, has remained silent on it.There was no comment from either any leader or from the party officially even after seven hours after the court verdict that upheld the death sentence of Salahuddin Quader Chowdhury.

Party leaders said they not yet received any instruction from the party high commend.

They said the party may come up with a formal reaction after going thorough the final verdict of the Appellate Division that rejected the review petition of Chowdhury seeking overturning his death sentence.

When contacted senior party leaders denied to make any comments saying that party spokesperson is authorities to talk on behalf of the party. But it was not possible to contact him over his cell phone.

Standing committee member Brig Gen (Retd) ASM Hannan Shah told media that they would sit together before giving their reactions publicly.

BNP chairperson’s adviser Khondaker Mahbub Hossain and Ahmed Azam Khan denied making any comments personally.

“Since it is a sectional case, I will not make any comment. The party spokesperson will speak on it,” he added.

BNP vice chairman Maj (Retd) M Hafiuzudidn Ahmed also declined to make any comment over the verdict.
Meanwhile, BNP has taken two-day programmes to mark the 51st birth anniversary of its senior vice chairman Tarique Rahman.

As part of the programme, the party would hold a discussion meeting in the city on “Democracy is the Precondition for Development.”

The programme will also include cutting cake, holding milad mahfil and arranging blood donation camp at party headquarters tomorrow.
