BNP, Jamaat accused of destructive atcs

State Minister for Home Affairs Shamsul Hoque Tuku on Friday alleged that BNP and Jamaat-e-Islami, led by leader of the opposition Khaleda Zia, are unleashing destructive activities across the country in the name of Islam.“Destructive activities, including killing, vandalising police stations and attacking police, are being carried out led by opposition leader Begum Khaleda Zia across the country in the name of Islam,” he said.
The junior minister was addressing an Ulema conference at Swadhinata Udyan on the role of Alem in fighting terrorism, corruption and militancy.
Observing that there is no place of any terrorist and militant activities in Islam, Tuku said Jamaat-e-Islami continued to create confusion among people in the name of Islam. “Jamaat is Islam’s enemy. They’re carrying out destructive activities to make their political gains. Alem, Ulema and Imams should be aware of them.”
Referring to the arrest of top BNP leaders, the state minister said legal action was taken against those who were directly involved in creating terrorism, killing and vandalising vehicles across the country.
Replying to a query about dialogue between the chiefs of Awami League and BNP, he questioned as to whether Khaleda wants a free, fair and peaceful election or that ‘monstrous’ caretaker government. “She should come to parliament with a proposal if she really wants a free, fair and credible election. Then a ground for a dialogue will be created.”
Replying to another question, Tuku said the government is considering banning Jamaat politics. “However, people will have to take action against them as Jamaat is a registered political party.”
Turning to the Sundarbans robbers, he said there is no cope to compromise with them but the government will consider granting them amnesty if they want to return to the normal life.
